These musicians, playing at the Spittal Folk Club in Rutherglen in 1960, didn’t known it, but they were at the cutting edge of the Sixties folk revival.

Whereas a few years before their big brothers and sisters were listening to rock’n’roll and trad jazz, pretty soon the whole country would be turned on to the re-emergent folk sound.

Glasgow’s own Matt McGinn, the Calton-born folk hero who in 1962 was billed above Bob Dylan at New York’s Carnegie Hall, used to live in Rutherglen and may well have popped into the club to share a song or two.

There's certainly no shortage of wallflowers here, or maybe the youngsters just didn't fancy being photographed, arm-in-arm, with their lumbers!
